A typical cloud setup fills the most private rooms with smart speakers, video doorbells, “fall-detection” cameras and voice assistants — the bedroom, the bathroom, the bedside.

Many listen continuously, waiting for a wake word they sometimes mishear. Every cough, every conversation, every 3 a.m. trip down the hall becomes a candidate for recording.

Your private moments don't stay home.

To work, these systems stream your life out of the house over the internet — continuously, automatically, invisibly.

Sleep patterns. Bathroom schedules. Voice clips. Heart rate. Who visits, and when. It's packaged up and sent away before you've finished your morning coffee.

Step 03 · It lands on someone else's computer

Processed by enormous servers you'll never see.

“The cloud” is just warehouses full of computers — owned by some of the largest corporations on earth. Your data is copied across data centers in many states and countries, wherever capacity is cheapest that day.

Step 04 · Then they use it

Your data works for them — not for you.

Once it's on their servers, it's theirs to use. Buried in the terms you tapped “agree” to is permission to analyze your habits, train their algorithms, profile your household, and share or sell insights to “partners.”

The product you bought for safety quietly becomes a product made of you.

Step 05 · And they keep it

Kept for as long as it's useful to them.

There's no expiry date on your bedroom audio. Retention is measured in years, not days.

And “delete my data” rarely means gone — not from every backup, every model it already trained, or every partner it was shared with.

Step 06 · The single point of failure

When the internet drops, so does your safety net.

Because the brains live in the cloud, the system is only as reliable as your Wi-Fi, your power, and a company's servers staying online.

A storm, an outage, a billing lapse, a discontinued product — and the protection your family depends on simply stops.
